"If you intend something to happen, it happens, if you intend it to happen. Verbalization* is not the intention. The intention is the carrier wave which takes the verbalization along with it." — L. Ron Hubbard (*verbalization: expressing oneself in words.)

When you use the correct level of intention in your communication, people pay attention to you.
People can feel your intention and you can feel theirs.

For example, have you ever noticed how you can tell someone is looking at you behind your back? Do you ever think of a person just before they call? You are feeling their intention.

People respond differently to you, based on your intention.

For example, you are in a busy clothing store and need a clerk’s help. With poor intention, you might wait all day. But with strong intention, you look at the clerk, his head whips around and he asks if he can help you.

When you add firm intention to your communication, you get better results.

For example, if you tell your children to clean up their rooms with weak intention, they continue to play around. If you tell them to clean their rooms with strong intention, they can tell that you mean it and their rooms get cleaned up.

Intention at Work
Your job is easier when you use the correct amount of intention.

For example, a coworker named Chris likes to complain to you. Chris says, "I hate this crappy chair.” "This weather is horrible." "Oh no, here comes Mr. Big again."

Tolerating or avoiding Chris resolves nothing. Your workplace remains stressful.

Yet if you look Chris in the eye and say, "Chris, stop complaining," you enjoy some wonderful results–if your intention is strong enough. It does not matter how loudly or softly you speak as verbalization has nothing to do with it. Your intention powers your statement.

A salesperson, with a strong intention to sell, gets more sales. A service representative, with a strong intention to make customers happy, helps the company thrive. A job applicant, with a strong intention to land the job, gets the job.

A manager with poor intention gets little cooperation and eventually fails. However, a manager with strong intention, finds that his or her employees usually do what they were hired to do.

Exercise Suggestions
1. Write down 3-5 things that are difficult for you to get people to do.
For example, Joe always forgets to bring back your stapler.
2. With a coach or friend, or by yourself to an object, say the first thing on your list with little or no intention. Really be wimpy.
For example, you say, “Joe, return my stapler when you are done with it,” but you are thinking, “well, if you don’t mind could you please try to remember to return my stapler if you have nothing else to do please?”
3. Now practice saying the first thing on your list with too much intention. Be much stronger than necessary.
For example, you still verbally say, “Joe, return my stapler when you are done with it,” but your intention is “JOE, BRING BACK MY STAPLER!”
4. Next, say the first thing from the list with the right amount of intention. The correct amount of intention gets the job done. Repeat a few times until it is comfortable for you.
For example, you still say, “Joe, return my stapler when you are done with it,” and your intention is very clear: “Joe, return my stapler when you are done with it.”
5. Repeat with each item on your list until you are ready to say each with the correct amount of intention.
Use clear intention in all of your communication and notice the results!

Do you constantly think about the future? Does tomorrow seem scary and uncertain? Are you worried how it will all turn out?

Maybe your attention is in the past. Do you dwell on old decisions? Do people from your past still affect you? Are you constantly thinking of accidents, attacks or injuries?

If so, you are missing the best part of life.

What is Sanity?
When you are in good condition, you are in the here and now. You are aware of the present. Your thoughts and attention are neither in the past nor in the future.

“. . . the very, very sane confront the present entirely and have very little concern for the future, being competent enough in handling the present to let the future take care of itself.” — L. Ron Hubbard

If you think about it, present time is all there really is. The past and the future exist only in our minds. Present time is reality.

Try getting your attention completely in the present. Look at an object for 10 seconds. Try to do nothing but look at the object. Can you keep your attention in the present for the entire 10 seconds? Do thoughts of the past or future slip in?
Imagine having no thoughts except present-time thoughts all day long.

10 Benefits of Getting Your Attention in the Present
1. Your powers of perception are greatly increased as you see things exactly as they are.
2. You don’t beat yourself up for your bad choices in the past or potential weaknesses in the future.
3. You look at others as they actually are. This is much more accurate than how they were or how you hope they will be.
4. Bad memories have no effect on you.
5. You can control the present much more effectively than the past or the future.
6. Your job performance is far superior as you are more alert.
7. You perceive more, experience more and enjoy more.
8. You make better decisions because you view the facts as they actually are, right now.
9. Bad news does not bother you as much because it does not remind you of similar bad news from the past.
10. You have fewer accidents and injuries. Your mind does not wander. Your reactions are faster.

Two Ways to Live More in the Present
1. Increase your ability to focus your attention on the present.
Practice, practice, practice. Every time you find yourself thinking about the past, look at an object. Move your attention in the present.
When speaking to people, really look at them. Focus on what they are saying.
When working, do nothing but work. Dive yourself into your tasks with all of your attention.
Live in the present with all your activities: driving, eating, walking, playing, reading, talking, even while watching a movie.

2. Reduce the negative influences of bad incidents in your past.
Bad incidents from your past can also make you worry too much about the future. You are worried, consciously or unconsciously, that these bad things might happen again.
To reduce the power of the past, you need to face the details of the past and resolve them so they no longer bother you. Unfortunately, you cannot do it by yourself.

Mr. Hubbard found irrational behavior stems from experiences in the past. In fact, everything you dislike about yourself is based on something in your past.

An easy, safe method for resolving your past is explained in Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health by L. Ron Hubbard. When you use Dianetics, you and a partner help each other by following the instructions in this best-selling book.

You can find Dianetics in bookstores, used bookstores or libraries. It is also available at www.dianetics.org and www.tipsforsuccess.org/bookstore.htm.

A DVD set called “How To Use Dianetics” has just been released. This brand-new 2-disc DVD set, contains a complete visual presentation of Dianetics. After watching the 32 short, easy-to-understand movies, you will be ready to use Dianetics to live more in the present and increase your power to succeed.
You can order the “How to Use Dianetics” DVD set for $20 by clicking here.

You can get anything you want if you do three things: NAME or describe exactly what you need to create, accomplish or produce, WANT that result or product, and ORGANIZE to get that result or product.

This article addresses NAME. Future articles will cover WANT and ORGANIZE.

“IF PRODUCTION IS NOT OCCURRING, THE ABILITY TO NAME THE PRODUCT IS PROBABLY MISSING.” — L. Ron Hubbard

Paul, a highly-successful business owner, was having a difficult time finding a new wife. Because of his status, wealth, charm and social connections, dozens of single women were attracted to him. Yet after a year of dating, Paul could not find his new mate. “I can’t decide who I want to be with. It’s driving me crazy!”

So he described, in writing, every characteristic he wanted in a wife. After an hour of work, he became very excited about his list of qualities. “. . . good sense of humor, likes to entertain, wants a big family, lets me eat snacks in bed . . .” He said, “As soon as I meet her, we’re getting married!”

Four weeks later he met his mate. He recognized her immediately as he had named exactly what he was looking for. They have been married for 22 years and have four children.

Get Specific
The more specific you are when you name the product, the more likely you will get what you need and want.

For example, if the boss tells a staff member, “Get busy,” you will see lots of action, but may not see any products. The staff member accomplishes more when the boss says, “File that stack of papers and make these 40 calls today.”

Parents who name products with their kids have happier, more productive children. For example, “Clean up this mess!” is not nearly as effective as “Pick up all the toys on the rug and put them in your toy box over there, right now.”

If you push yourself to succeed without naming what you specifically want to produce, you waste time and energy.

For example you say, “I have to get some money fast!” You then jump from one task to another and accomplish nothing.
If instead you say, “I need $5000 by the end of the month. That means I need to produce the following . . . .” And then you name the necessary products or objectives you need to accomplish. As a result, your chances of getting the $5000 are much greater!

Six Steps for Naming What You Want
Naming your products or objectives is a great way to increase your income, rise to the top in your profession, find the perfect place to live, pay off your debts, find a great job, hire great employees, start a successful business and so on. When the right opportunity comes along, you don’t need to think it over for long. You can take immediate action.
Naming your product allows you to focus on the exact thing you need to do, produce, create, accomplish or locate. You can name your products for the hour, day, week, month, year, decade or lifetime. These steps may help you.

1. Think of something you need or want.
2. Describe this product or objective as specifically as possible. List all the qualities in detail.
3. Include a date when you want to get it produced or accomplished.
4. As you work to get what you need or want, review your description regularly.
5. Every time you come close to getting what you want, but then discover it is not right, revise your description to include the features you truly want or do not want.
6. If you discover your product or objective is unrealistic, revise your description to fit reality.
Start!

If people cannot trust you, you will not succeed. You need people to believe you, have confidence in you, depend on you.

Losing trust is easy. You forget a promise you made. You fail to do what you said you would do.

When business owners, executives and managers cannot be trusted, no one will buy from them or work for them. Bankruptcies, lawsuits and government investigations start with broken agreements.

Governments also run into trouble when they break their word. When its citizens or other countries expect one thing and get another, they demand new leadership.

Trust is essential to marriages. In fact, you could say most divorces stem from broken agreements. "She agreed to not have an affair!" "He was going to treat me well!" "I thought I was going to be getting a husband/wife who ________."

"One’s regard for another is based, in no small degree, on whether or not the person keeps his or her word. Even parents, for instance, would be surprised at the extent they drop in the opinion of their children when a promise is not kept."

"People who keep their word are trusted and admired. People who do not are regarded like garbage. Those who break their word often never get another chance."

"One should never permit another to give his or her word lightly. And one should insist that when a promise is made, it must be kept."
"Keep your word once given." — L. Ron Hubbard from The Way to Happiness

Three Recommendations

1. Make firm promises.
When you know you can do something or provide a specific result, don’t hesitate to say so. Look people in the eye and tell them the truth. "I will complete that project by Friday, without fail." "If the car won’t start, call us and we’ll send a tow truck within an hour." "You can deposit the check today."

2. Keep your small promises.
Many people see nothing wrong with breaking small promises. For example, you say, "I’ll call you Tuesday" but then you don’t call until Thursday. You say, "I won’t tell anyone about your wife’s drinking problem," but then you tell a few people anyway. You say, "I’ll pay you back tomorrow," but then completely forget.
If you don’t take small promises seriously, you damage your reputation. You appear disorganized or irresponsible. You make the other person feel unimportant which makes him or her treat you the same way.
When people see that you keep your word on small things, they are more likely to believe you can keep your word on big things.
People will say things like, “Thanks for remembering to send me the file this morning.” “You’re the only one who paid me for yesterday’s lunch.” “You stopped by on Saturday, just as you said you would. Thank you.”

3. When keeping your word is difficult, do it anyway.
If you can’t hold up your end, don’t rationalize or make excuses. "He won’t care that my payment is late." "She knows I usually arrive on time." "They don’t treat me with respect, so I don’t need to honor their contract."
Instead, make it go right. "Even though my car had to go to the shop, and even though someone bounced a check on me, here is your payment, as promised, on time." Even better, simply say, "Here’s your payment."
Stay up late, break a sweat, push yourself, find solutions, work harder, persist, push, demand, get your hands dirty and make it happen despite the cost. The cost of failing is much higher.

10 Benefits of Earning More Trust
1. You build an excellent reputation.
2. You spend less time convincing people to do what you ask them to do.
3. Because you are dependable, people offer you new opportunities.
4. You have more pride as you trust yourself.
5. Even if someone disagrees with you, he or she respects you.
6. If everyone involved in a business deal trusts each other, the deal works well.
7. You can make bigger and bigger promises.
8. People who trust you have no reason to attack you or criticize you.
9. Your marriage is more successful.
10. When people trust you, they are happy to give you money or help you succeed.

The Japanese love fresh fish. However, the waters close to Japan have not held many fish for decades. So to feed the Japanese population, fishing boats got bigger and went farther than ever.
The farther the fishermen went, the longer it took to bring in the fish. If the return trip took more than a few days, the fish were not fresh. The Japanese did not like the taste.
To solve this problem, fishing companies installed freezers on their boats. They would catch the fish and freeze them at sea. Freezers allowed the boats to go farther and stay longer.
However, the Japanese could taste the difference between fresh and frozen and they did not like frozen fish. The frozen fish brought a lower price.
So fishing companies installed fish tanks. They would catch the fish and stuff them in the tanks, fin to fin. After a little thrashing around, the fish stopped moving. They were tired and dull, but alive.
Unfortunately, the Japanese could still taste the difference. Because the fish did not move for days, they lost their fresh-fish taste. The Japanese preferred the lively taste of fresh fish, not sluggish fish.
So how did Japanese fishing companies solve this problem? How do they get fresh-tasting fish to Japan? If you were consulting the fish industry, what would you recommend?

Too Much Money

As soon as you reach your goals, such as finding a wonderful mate, starting a successful company, becoming independently wealthy or whatever, you might lose your passion. You don’t need to work so hard so you relax.
You experience the same problem as lottery winners who waste their money, wealthy heirs who never grow up and bored homemakers who get addicted to prescription drugs.
Like the Japanese fish problem, the best solution is simple. It was observed by L. Ron Hubbard in the early 1950′s.
“Man thrives, oddly enough, only in the presence of a challenging environment.”– L. Ron Hubbard
The Benefits of a Challenge
The more intelligent, persistent and competent you are, the more you enjoy a good problem.
If your challenges are the correct size, and if you are steadily conquering those challenges, you are happy.
You think of your challenges and get energized. You are excited to try new solutions. You have fun.
You are alive!

How Japanese Fish Stay Fresh
To keep the fish tasting fresh, the Japanese fishing companies still put the fish in the tanks. But now they add a small shark to each tank. The shark eats a few fish, but most of the fish arrive in a very lively state.
The fish are challenged.

Recommendations
Instead of avoiding challenges, jump into them. Beat the heck out of them. Enjoy the game.
If your challenges are too large or too numerous, do not give up. Failing makes you tired. Instead, reorganize. Find more determination, more knowledge, more help.
If you have met your goals, set some bigger goals. Once you meet your personal or family needs, move onto goals for your group, the society, even mankind.
Don’t create success and lie in it. You have resources, skills and abilities to make a difference.
Put a shark in your tank and see how far you can really go!

Once a king called upon all of his wise men and asked them, ” Is there a mantra or suggestion which works in every situation, in every circumstances, in every place and in every time. In every joy, every sorrow, every defeat and every victory? One answer for all questions? Something which can help me when none of you is available to advise me? Tell me is there any mantra?”

All the wise men were puzzled by the King’s question. They thought and thought. After a lengthy discussion, an old man suggested something which appealed to all of them. They went to the king and gave him something written on paper, with a condition that the king was not to see it out of curiosity. Only in extreme danger, when the King finds himself alone and there seems to be no way, only then he can see it. The King put the papers under his Diamond ring.

Some time later, the neighbors attacked the Kingdom. King and his army fought bravely but lost the battle. The King had to flee on his horse. The enemies were following him. getting closer and closer. Suddenly the King found himself standing at the end of the road – that road was not going anywhere. Underneath there was a rocky valley thousand feet deep. If he jumped into it, he would be finished…and he could not return because it was a small road…the sound of enemy’s horses was approaching fast. The King became restless. There seemed to be no way.

Then suddenly he saw the Diamond in his ring shining in the sun, and he remembered the message hidden in the ring. He opened the diamond and read the message. The message was – ” THIS TOO SHALL PASS”

The King read it . Again read it. Suddenly something struck him- Yes ! This too will pass. Only a few days ago, I was enjoying my kingdom. I was the mightiest of all the Kings. Yet today, the Kingdom and all his pleasure have gone. I am here trying to escape from enemies.

Like those days of luxuries have gone, this day of danger too will pass. A calm came on his face. He kept standing there. The place where he was standing was full of natural beauty. He had never known that such a beautiful place was also a part of his Kingdom.

The revelation of the message had a great effect on him. He relaxed and forgot about those following him. After a few minutes he realized that the noise of the horses and the enemy coming was receding. They moved into some other part of the mountains and were near him.

The King was very brave. He reorganized his army and fought again. He defeated the enemy and regained his empire. When he returned to his empire after victory, he was received with much fanfare. The whole capital was rejoicing in the victory. Everyone was in festive mood.
Flowers were being showered on King from every house, from every corner. People were dancing and singing. For a moment King said to himself,” I am one of the bravest and greatest King. It is not easy to defeat me. With all the reception and celebration he saw an ego emerging in him.

Suddenly the Diamond of his ring flashed in the sunlight and reminded him of the message. He open it and read it again: “THIS TOO SHALL PASS”.

He became silent. His face went through a total change -from the egoist he moved to a state of utter humbleness. If this too is going to pass, it is not yours. The defeat was not yours, the victory is not yours. You are just a watcher. Everything passes by. We are witnesses of all this. We are the perceivers. Life comes and goes. Happiness comes and goes. Sorrow comes and goes.

Now as you have read this story, just sit silently and evaluate your own life. This too will pass. Think of the moments of joy and victory in your life. Think of the moment of Sorrow and defeat. Are they permanent? They all come and pass away.

Life just passes away. There is nothing permanent in this world. Every thing changes except the law of change. Think over it from your own perspective. You have seen all the changes. You have survived all setbacks, all defeats and all sorrows. All have passed away. The problems in the present, they too will pass away. Because nothing remains forever. Joy and sorrow are the two faces of the same coin. They both will pass away.

You are just a witness of change. Experience it, understand it, and enjoy the present moment -
this too shall pass!

A lecturer was giving a lecture to his student on stress management.

He raised a glass of water and asked the audience, “How heavy do you think this glass of water is?” The students’ answers ranged from 20g to 500gm.

It does not matter on the absolute weight. It depends on how long you hold it. If I hold it for a minute, it is OK. If I hold it for an hour, I will have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you will have to call an ambulance.

It is the exact same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, we will not be able to carry on, the burden becoming increasingly heavier.

What you have to do is to put the glass down, rest for a while before holding it up again. We have to put down the burden periodically, so that we can be refreshed and are ! able
to carry on.

So before you return home from work tonight, put the burden of work down. Don’t carry it
back home. You can pick it up tomorrow. Whatever burdens you are having now on your shoulders, let it down for a moment if you can. Pick it up again later when you have rested.

Rest and relax. Life is short, enjoy it!! Cheers!

Highly-successful people love to work. Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods practiced for 12-15 hours per day to reach their skill level. Bill Gates worked 20-hour days for years. Thomas Edison, who wanted to work at night, built thousands of unworkable light bulbs before discovering one that worked.

Hard-working employees have better job security than lazy employees. Hard work helps professionals rise to the top of their professions. Businesses that beat their competitors are run by people who work the hardest.

When you have no problem working hard, you can accomplish great things. You reach your goals. You have self-respect and pride.

Ten Excuses for Not Working Hard

1. “No one can succeed in this economy.”

2. “Everyone else is taking it easy.”

3. “I have a medical condition.”

4. “I’m a boss and bosses don’t have to work hard.”

5. “It takes up my valuable energy.”

6. “I don’t get paid enough.”

7. “I don’t have the time for it right now.”

8. “Once the boss sees you can work hard, you have to do it all the time.”

9. “I’ll work hard when I feel like it.”

10. “Hard work leads to workaholism.”

“Be Industrious”

“Work is not always pleasant.

“But few are unhappier than those who lead a purposeless, idle and bored existence . . .”

“Sorrow itself can be eased by simply getting busy at something.”

“Morale is boosted to high highs by accomplishment. In fact, it can be demonstrated that production is the basis of morale.” — L. Ron Hubbard from The Way to Happiness

In this day and age, hardly anyone dies of hard work. Instead, hard work makes you feel better about yourself. If you are feeling depressed, sad or afraid, getting industrious will make you feel much better.

All successful people work hard. They ignore their minor pains and mental barriers. They complete projects as fast as possible and dive into their next project.

Hard work is vital to your morale, superior accomplishment and high pay. It’s the engine in your rocket to your goals. No one succeeds without it.

Ten Tips for Becoming More Industrious

1. Think of a project that requires you to work hard. Imagine how you will feel after you complete it.

2. Tell a few people you are going to complete a hard job. It can be more difficult to admit you failed than to just do the job.

3. Break big projects into smaller and smaller tasks until you feel comfortable about doing the first tiny task. Do it now.

4. Work very hard for just five minutes to see how you feel. Then work another five minutes and so on.

5. Set deadlines for yourself and then beat them.

6. Before beginning some difficult work, completely prepare yourself. Organize your supplies and material, put on the proper clothing and so on.

7. Consider how much better the future will be if during the next few months, you work harder than ever before.

8. Force yourself to get started. Once you have some momentum going, the work will be easier.

9. Do the entire task in your mind before starting it. Imagine a fast, successful completion.

10. Arrange for a reward for your extra hard work. For example, “As soon as I finish all these reports, I’ll have a delicious dinner.” “I won’t be going to the movies until I clean out the garage.”

You have problems if you focus too much on money or too much on production.

If you focus too much on money, all you think is “get money, get money, get money.” You borrow as much money as you can. You convince people to pay you for services or goods you have not produced. You gamble or invest hoping you will get money without having to work for it.

For example, the manager of a computer company is more concerned about selling computers than making computers. She buys huge advertisements, hires excellent salespeople and pays them big commissions. Because her company cannot make enough computers, and the ones they do make are bad quality, she gets fired by the owner. The company has a horrible reputation and closes down.

If you focus too much on production, all you think is “produce, produce, produce.” You build your product or provide your service without any attention on money. You think, “If I just do nothing but produce, I’ll eventually get some money.”

For example, a dentist loves making people’s smiles look perfect. He hates asking for money. So he works hard fixing people’s teeth, but never collects his fees. He does not focus enough on money and goes out of business.

“When either money or production get out of balance one has trouble. All production and no money is as bad as all money and no production.

“This also answers the world mystery of booms and depressions which, unsolved, drove the whole field of economics into a mad subject.”

“Well-paid delivery in high quality is the correct answer. Only then can a boom continue.”

“There are no shortcuts to honest prosperity.” — L. Ron Hubbard

All Money, No Production

As you may have noticed, too many people have gotten stuck on getting money and not production.

For example, Fred hears how people are making money by buying houses and then selling them for a big profit. Fred also learns he can borrow a great deal of money, even though he doesn’t make enough money to pay it off. He is convinced, “I’ll just buy this big house with this big loan. I’ll sell it in a year and make a big pile of money, just like everyone else.”

Joe owns a company that has a $1 million retirement fund. Hundreds of workers have given part of their pay into this fund. Pete convinces Joe to give him the $1 million so he can turn it into $2 million through big house loans. Pete gets a big commission from the bank for getting Joe’s $1 million.

Barney owns an investment company. He tells the mortgage company, “Let me take control of your $100 million in loan accounts. I have investors who will give us $150 million as they think real estate will keep going up. You and I will each get a $2 million commission!”

Fred can’t pay back his loan and no one will buy his house, so he goes bankrupt. Pete’s plan completely fails wiping out Joe’s company retirement fund meaning Joe has no money for his workers’ retirements. Pete has earned a bad reputation and cannot get a job. Barney asks the government for $150 million to bail him out.

All Production, No Money

When farmers produce too much food, it goes to waste. They do not ensure people will pay before planting or they do not know how to sell the food after it is harvested.

When computer programmers create web services that no one wants, they might have to live in their parents’ basements. Programmers who find out what people will buy before creating their web services can live in big houses.

When car manufacturers keep building big cars and trucks when people want hybrids or electric cars, thousands of gas guzzlers sit in parking lots.

Putting as much attention on money as you put on your product or service ensures you will prosper.

Recommendations

To succeed, you need to do two things: 1.) Produce high-quality goods or services and 2.) Get paid well for it. Both things.

For example, if you cut hair for a living, figure out how to produce the highest-quality haircut possible and how to get paid a proper fee for it. If you focus too much on money and charge too much, you’ll lose your customers. If you focus too much on great haircuts, you won’t collect enough and you’ll be broke.

What do you produce? Is it really valuable? If not, what do you need to change to make it so?

If your services or goods are valuable, are you earning enough money from them? If not, what do you need to change so you get paid properly?

If you do both things, you will have a boom. If you do not do both things, you will have a depression.

Produce a valuable product or service, make sure you get paid adequately for it and enjoy a lifetime of success.

“There are no shortcuts to honest prosperity.” — L. Ron Hubbard

If you hate yourself, you will most likely fail. If you love yourself, your chances of success are much higher.

So what can you do to increase your love for yourself?

Simple!

“If you love others, you will love yourself.”

“If you hate others, you will hate yourself.”

“A healthy state of being is to be a friend to yourself.” — L. Ron Hubbard

Exercise

You can try this concept right now.

1. Take a minute to hate people. Look at a few people and just hate them. How do you feel about yourself?

2. Now love others. Look around and love everyone you see. Continue until all the hate dissolves.

How do you feel about yourself now?

3. Spend all day loving people. Find something you love about everyone you meet. Continue until your opinion of yourself improves.

Your road to success is much easier if you are your own best friend!
